Autonomy levels describe how much a system can do without a human in the loop. The ladder usually goes: suggest, act with approval, act then report, and act unattended. A travel assistant is a clean example. At the suggest level, it lists flights and hotels. At act-with-approval, it drafts the bookings and waits for you to click confirm. At act-then-report, it books the trip first and sends you the receipt after. At act-unattended, it books within set rules on its own. Most products sold as “agents” sit on the first two rungs.
