What changed: AutoGen has been archived by Microsoft, which now directs users to Microsoft Agent Framework. Active maintenance has ended, including bug fixes, security fixes, new features, and support.
Why it matters: Teams with AutoGen in production or internal prototypes now have an unsupported dependency, not simply a slower release cadence. Microsoft’s replacement direction is explicit, but the fact sheet makes no claim that existing AutoGen implementations migrate unchanged.
Do this: Check each AutoGen workload’s orchestration, tool integrations, and deployment assumptions against Microsoft Agent Framework before scheduling a migration.
